As part of the celebration of Lifelong Learning Week, a workshop titled “How to Become a Scientist – Methodology of Writing a Scientific Paper” was held, led by Dr. Željka Kadlec. The workshop brought together third-year students and provided them with practical guidelines for successfully writing and publishing scientific papers.
The main focus of the workshop was on the fundamentals of the methodology for writing scientific papers, conducting research, and processing data. Participants were introduced to the key steps involved in preparing scientific papers. Special attention was given to distinguishing between professional articles, scientific papers, and preliminary communications, highlighting their different purposes, structures, and criteria.
Participants also received detailed explanations about the peer review process, including the importance of reviewer impartiality, key evaluation criteria for papers, and how this process contributes to the quality and credibility of scientific publications.
The workshop offered concrete advice on writing a high-quality scientific paper, including creating the introduction, methodology, results, and conclusions, as well as rules for citation and avoiding plagiarism. Students were also introduced to opportunities for publishing scientific papers in the journal ET²eR – Economy, Tourism, Telecommunications, and Computing, providing them with a platform to present their research to the wider academic community.
This workshop was an excellent opportunity for students to gain insight into the requirements of academic writing and to motivate them to further develop their scientific skills. Their interest and engagement during the workshop highlight the importance of such educational activities in encouraging young people to engage in scientific work and contribute to the advancement of science.
